In addition, archaeological and documentary evidence relating to divinatory practices in the Basque regions will be presented, together with an examination of the institutional prohibitions that restricted their presence in public spaces. The seminar will then explore the most important traditional systems in greater depth, with particular attention to osteomancy and astragalomancy; various divinatory methods based on elemental energies; divination through the flight of birds and the observation of other signs in nature; begizkune as a local method for detecting and neutralizing the evil eye; coscinomancy; and other forms of popular divination.
The session will be streamed online via Zoom on 25th July and will last three hours, including a break midway through.
This part of the seminar includes access to the virtual classroom, a recording of the lecture, the presentation together with its corresponding bibliography, supplementary resources for further study, and participation in a group discussion forum. The materials will remain available for one month, and participants will be able to submit questions by email after the class.
The fee is €15. Those who support the project through Patreon are eligible for discounted rates to help make attendance more accessible.
